7 more days!

I can't believe that we are already at the one week mark. All weekend John and I keep reminding each other of things...like (right now we would be doing our first dance, or eating cake...or being a little tipsy.) I am SOOOOO excited to see all my friends. I am so excited to show everyone just how amazing and awesome Charleston is.

Today was a special day in our wedding journey as we attended an early service for John's baptism. We are now both baptized and ready to receive all the grace that marriage offers.

Now...onto my finals (three by Wednesday) and then the guest will start pouring in. So grateful and happy I could literally burst.

17 more days!!

I am so happy that there are only 17 more days to wait until the wedding. John and I were quite surprised (rather I was) last weekend with our co-ed wedding shower. Great food, great friends, great family and really good cupcakes. A wonderful part of preparing for the wedding has been our marriage classes. We only have two more left (can you say down to the wire?!?)
We are overjoyed at the family and friends taking the time to spend the weekend with us. If you have any questions, concerns, comments, or needs...please let us know.

XOXO,
Jeny & John

Welcome | Wedding Details

We hardly ever update this blog, but now we are going to post all wedding details here. So check back often. There are so many options when visiting Charleston...also many budget choices. So we decided not to block rooms at hotels. This way they type of Charleston vacation you have is your choice. When visiting the "Low Country" you have two choices....beach or historic downtown. John and I live in the coastal community of Mount Pleasant which is located between the beach and downtown! John and I will be staying at Patriots Point Hilton the night of the wedding. There is a fantastic "heated beach" bar located at this hotel.

*STAY TUNED*

  • We are working on providing transportation from the Patriots Point Hilton to the ceremony/reception and back after the wedding.

  • The rehearsal dinner will take place in Mount Pleasant, SC.
Mount Pleasant Hotels

The Patriots Point Hilton is located in Mount Pleasant, SC. There is a water taxi from this hotel that takes you downtown for exploring.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites is located in Mount Pleasant, SC. This hotel is brand new and close to the Patriots Point Hilton. This hotel is also with in walking distance to the new Waterfront Memorial Park.

Downtown Charleston Hotels

Francis Marion Hotel is located downtown. This hotel is a wonderfully restored hotel right on Marion Square. Saturday mornings the square host an "amazing" farmers market. This hotel is located on King Street which is a Charleston mecca for shopping. You are also in walking distance of the old market and dozens of historic churches. This IS a great home base for exploring Charleston. To note...this is a historic hotel so the rooms are smaller.

Holiday Inn Charleston is located downtown. This hotel is also located off Marion Square and in walking distance to many downtown activities.

Things to do

The Market sits between Meeting Street and East Bay Street. There are lots of vendors and it is always fun to walk through. On either side of the Market there are restaurants and other little shops. Restaurants of note on this street would be Wild Wings (Wings and Beer) and Henry's great for jazz on the weekend.

Waterfront park is beautiful. There is a nice dock that has porch swings. It is a great place to relax. The park also has the famous pineapple fountain. You can get to this park by walking down Vendue Street (off East Bay Street.) While on Vendue there is a restaurant called the Library if you take the elevator to the top floor there is a bar called the rooftop. Very, very pretty views of the harbor.

King Street is the SHOPPING mecca. I advise walking from one end to the other. If you are looking for a fun restaurant Joe Pasta is always good and fairly inexpensive. There is also a restaurant called Basil that has a huge following (King and John street.)

Spend some time on the Battery. You can get to the battery by walking right onto East Bay Street. Lots to do and see for free. On this walk you will pass the "famous" Rainbow Row. Beautiful Gardens.

To Do:
Horse and Carriage ride

Today is the day

I can't help but think that today may be the most important day of my adult life. I have never been so filled with hope and excitement for our country.

To those who would tear this world down-we will defeat you. To
those who seek peace and security-we support you. And to all those who have
wondered if Americas beacon still burns as bright-tonight we proved once more
that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or
the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy,
liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.

Three days and counting

OK - just a really quick post. I am counting down the time until we exchange gifts - only three more days now!!! Yippie!

Honestly, with the way things have been going for everyone this year, I am looking forward to a day of focusing on family and freinds (mostly family, since our freinds are all out of state) - and not thinking about work, the economy, and everything else that seems to have been tearing away at my insides and keeping me distracted.

Hurray for Christmas! :)

Our Playlist, an accurate description of us.

Today John and I created a playlist. We each chose 6 songs that make us happy or express us as individuals. I will let you guess who chose what. You can check it out to the right on the sidebar. *if you aren't a fan you can always pause the music while you browse our site.

Memories.....

WOW!!!!! Talk about a blast from the past. I have told Jeny of things I remember from my childhood - and things that I always had wanted. One of those items happens to be this!

Having been an Air Force brat, I lived all over the planet. One of the places we were stationed at in the 80's was Lindsey Air Station in Wiesbaden, West Germany. Yep - before reunification.... God, I am getting old. But I digress. When we lived in Germany - one of my favorite times of the year was right around Christmas. Over there, they know how to do Christmas.... In Wiesbaden, the entire downtown would be turned into a giant open air Christmas Market. I had my first taste of wine at one (Germany hot spiced wine) - which also led to the first time I ever got sick from drinking (thank god for the McDonalds that was there!).

One of the things at these markets that I always loved were these little incense burners. They are hand carved, and made into different figures. They are hollow on the inside, and designed to come apart, so that you can place an incense cone in the middle and put it back together. The mouth is carved out - and so when everything is lit, burning, and in one piece - it looks just like it is smoking! Well, needless to say, I never got one. For the last twenty five years or so, I have always tried to find one in the states with no luck.

Today Fed-Ex arrived at the house with a little box. Inside was this little guy all the way from Germany! I know, I am so spoiled!!!!

It's the small things in life that really make you smile! Thanks baby!!!!!

change and hope

Tonight a republican boy and democratic girl watched anxiously united by change and hope...or "chope" as we have been referring to it. What an awesome example we are setting for the younger generations. The change is here and now the work begins.

Despite the dreary day outside; inside we are working hard, but comfy. You would think working from home we would see each other all day, but for the most part I see John once in the morning when he brings me my coffee and once in the afternoon when he delivers mail.

I am totally spoiled, I know.

Some days go by quick and others are more meandering. One constant is the crazy amount of time we spend on the phone. We both spend many, many, MANY hours on the phone. After 5PM neither of us our phone people...

These cupcakes were SUPER yummy, btw.
